About Me
Using code to build tools that advance medical care.
My Journey
I’m a Systems Biology student at Case Western Reserve University with a passion for leveraging technology to advance medical research and patient care. I started college thinking I would end up as a computer scientist, but have since shifted to pursuing a career in medicine.
This summer at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF) as a C4KC scholar, I built a full-stack web app from scratch that lets doctors create AI-powered chart review systems without writing any code. Previously, the logic in the parse-emr (electronic medical records) system to determine what questions are asked when and in what order required significant programming knowledge, and was error-prone, even for experienced programmers. It was also unclear what prompt sets needed to be made for a given set of data. Now, users can simply log into a website, select what data they want to pull, graphically make prompt sets, and export them in a format we can run. Essentially, we can go from an idea to a dataset of thousands of patients seamlessly. It’s now being used across multiple departments for conducting chart review on thousands of patients.
In addition to that system, I helped build infrastructure to pull and process CCF CT scans into a format that we can then train machine learning models on. These were used that summer to submit several abstracts to the Society of Urologic Oncology, which will then be turned into full papers.
I’ve loved working on any project that sits right at the intersection of technology and healthcare. Whether it’s been analyzing cancer biomarkers from mass spectrometry data, building mobile apps, or AI making systems that can process thousands of medical scans and charts efficiently, I’m drawn to problems where programming can make a difference in patient care and make it easier for researchers to do their job.
My technical skills span multiple programming languages (Python, C++, Java, Rust, and web technologies, which I’ve applied to both medical and non-medical informatics and software development. I’ve used this to analyze mass spectrometry data on cancer biomarkers at UC Irvine COSMOS, build apps, and build Discord bots throughout high school.
